MODE, a technology company focused on providing access to financial services through mobile phone, was named the IBM Global Entrepreneur of the Year 2012.
“Being named the IBM Global Entrepreneur of the Year is a tremendous honour and will accelerate our ability to create new markets,” said Julian Kyula, CEO and Co-Founder, MODE. “The access to clients and potential investors that we have had through the SmartCamp program would have taken our company 10 years to achieve on our own, with IBM it took less than six months.”
IBM SmartCamps program connects promising start-ups with successful venture capitalists, investors, and innovative business leaders. Founded in 2010, MODE now has operations in 31 countries with a customer base of 250 million. MODE’s mission is to provide access to financial services such as micro and nano loans to the unbanked customers, turning their sim cards into credit cards.
